How to Get Started - American Barber Institute

American Barber Institute (ABI) is licensed by the New York State Department of Education. Our facility includes two floors, the first is used for hands on practical training. Our downstairs floor is devoted to the theoretical and practical component of the program training. Our school’s facility is 3,000 square feet, which makes us one of the largest schools of its type in the New York City area. A.B.I. is handicap accessible. While, ABI has a large and spacious facility we are equally proud of the class sizes for both our theory classes and practical experience.

Social Security Card or Tax ID Number
High School Diploma (HSD) or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) If you don’t have an HSD or GED ABI will administer entrance exam prior to enrolling If you have a HSD from a foreign country, you have to submit notarized translation and copy of the original document
Must be 17 years of age
Proof of address
Photo Identification or Driver’s License
